Hotel Julien Dubuque is Named Outstanding Lodging Property

Dubuque, Iowa (October 26, 2015) – Hotel Julien Dubuque was recently recognized with the Outstanding Lodging Award at the 2015 Iowa Tourism Conference held in Fairfield, Iowa. Hosted by the Iowa Tourism Office and the Travel Federation of Iowa, the annual awards ceremony honors excellence in the tourism industry.
In a release published by the Iowa Tourism Office on October 23rd, Carla Eysink, president of the Travel Federation of Iowa, is quoted as saying, “The Iowa Tourism Awards are the highest honor given in our state’s tourism industry…The winners are truly the best of the best.”
Dubuque, Iowa was the recipient of three awards including Outstanding Event, Outstanding Lodging (Metro), and the People’s Choice Award. Outstanding Event was awarded to America’s River Festival for its efforts in supporting the travel industry in Iowa. People’s Choice Award went to Dig In!, Iowa’s Ag Innovation Tour, a collaboration between the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dubuque Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau and Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Hotel Julien Dubuque received the Outstanding Lodging (Metro) award designed to recognize an exceptional lodging property that demonstrates excellence in supporting and growing tourism in Iowa.
Throughout the year, Hotel Julien Dubuque celebrated a number of significant milestones, including the airing of two episodes of ABC’s hit reality show The Bachelor which were filmed at the hotel, the inaugural Dubuque Diamond Dash, and the 100th anniversary of the hotel’s grand re-opening in 1915. The hotel also sponsored community events that are known for driving Dubuque tourism, including the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, America’s River Festival, and Dubuque Food & Wine Festival.

The annual Iowa Tourism Conference brings together nearly 300 industry representatives from across the state to network, attend educational sessions and discuss emerging industry trends.
Tourism is an $8 billion industry in Iowa, employing more than 66,500 people statewide and more than 2,830 people in Dubuque County alone. Travel related expenditures for Dubuque County totaled $329.01 million with payroll totaling $50.58 million in 2014, according to the annual Iowa Economic Development Authority Impact of Travel Report.
